College is supposed to be about personal growth. Many people feel that their minds were exposed to new ideas when they went to college. They were put into situations that they were not used to and forced to adapt. College also meant freedom. A new sense of being able to do whatever you wanted to do. There was no one to make you go to class. No one to make you eat properly or to make you get enough rest. College meant that for the first time in your life, you were responsible to no one but yourself.
And it was at Florida that you learned more about yourself that you thought you would. You learned that you could drink too much. And that you really did need at least seven hours of sleep. And you learned about loyalty and dedication. Loyalty and dedication to your school and to its sports teams. And a deep hatred toward your rivals. No one could go to the University of Florida and not be a Gators fan. Before going to college you watched college sports just like anyone else. You really didn’t have a favorite team, you just watched everything. But when you got to Gainesville that changed. If you weren’t watching Gators football or Gators basketball, you were watching Alabama, Miami or Florida State just to make sure that they lost. You were a Gator through and through.
And even after you graduated, you remained a Gator. Every Saturday in the fall, you are watching Gator football. And in the winter, you are watching Gator basketball. Seeing those games reminds you of the good times. And to further remind you, you got a couple of Florida Gators watches. The first time you saw a Florida Gator watch you thought that you would never wear one. You just weren’t a watch person. But the more you looked at them, the more you realized that you should buy a Florida Gators watch. Your only problem was deciding on which one to buy. The retro series Florida Gators watch seemed to mature to you. You weren’t a young man anymore, but you liked to think you were. When you did get older you would consider the retro series or even the Florida Gators pocket watch. It would be cool to own a pocket watch like your grandfather had. No, you would get a watch more appropriate for a young person. The veteran series Florida Gators Men’s watch seemed like the perfect choice. It had a black leather band and a solid blue face with that familiar Albert E. Gator logo. It was a great looking watch and whenever anyone saw it, they would know that you were a Florida Gator.
Gainesville will always be in your heart. Now it will always be on your mind every time you look down at the Florida Gators watch on your wrist. |
